IMDB Plot Synopsis: In 2027, in a chaotic world in which humans can no longer procreate, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea, where her child's birth may help scientists save the future of humankind.
- Clive Owen was good, but I’ve never hated him in anything I’ve seen him in so that’s unsurprising. Watching him run around without shoes on was reminiscent of Bruce Willis in Die Hard, but with less glass to pick out of his feet. The flip flops afterwards were a nice touch. His death was very expected and unsurprising.
- Michael Caine as a crazed sort of hippie was excellent, but Michael Caine as anything in anything is excellent.
- Julianne Moore died a lot earlier than I thought she would. Actually, it didn’t occur to me that she might die and then when she did I thought “Isn’t this a little soon?”
- This movie was more violent and had more action that I thought it would.
- It was also a lot more funny than I ever thought it could be. When Theo asked Kee who the father of her baby was and she told him she was a virgin, I died.
- I really enjoyed all of the billboards and signage they used to create the dystopian future. My favourite was the one that said “REFUSING FERTILITY TESTS IS A CRIME“.
- I don’t know, something was lacking from this movie. It was enjoyable in an average way, don’t get me wrong, but it didn’t quite grab me in a forceful way nor really make me care about whether or not any of the characters made it out alive. It wouldn’t make me want to see Alfonso Cuaron’s other films, so it’s a good thing I’ve already seen and love Prisoner of Azkaban. ;)
- Excellent use of King Crimson on the soundtrack, though. That’s one you never, ever hear.
